Abstract

To enhance students' awareness of intellectual property protection and foster standardised creative practices, this session invites a professional lawyer to introduce the fundamentals of intellectual property. The sharing will focus on key areas, including copyright, trademark, patent, and trade secrets, addressing common types of creative works, legal boundaries, and infringement risks in cultural and creative activities. Through legal interpretation, case studies, and practical guidance, the session aims to help students develop compliance awareness, master essential IP skills, and gain legal support for their academic and project-based work.

Speaker

Name: Jian Cao

Title: Lawyer at Beijing Grandway (Suzhou) Law Offices, specialising in corporate law, intellectual property, civil and commercial dispute resolution, and education law.

Bio: Mr Cao is a dual-qualified lawyer admitted to practice in China and New York. He holds law degrees from Soochow University, Renmin University of China, and St. Mary’s University School of Law (USA). With substantial experience in corporate governance, commercial contracts, intellectual property, and media & entertainment law, he has represented Fortune 500 companies, leading academic institutions, and clients in the creative industry. Mr Cao has also contributed to legal publications, including translations and practice guides. His practice combines international perspective with deep local expertise, delivering strategic and result-oriented legal solutions.
