The School of Languages, in collaboration with the Everything You Know Club and the Student English Association (SEA), successfully hosted the first XJTLU Language Competition 2025, highlighting the linguistic talents of Year 1 students in both English and Spanish.
The competition took place over several weeks, with different formats designed to assess participants’ proficiency through written tests and oral performance.
The English competition featured two rounds: a preliminary paper-based examination in Week 2, followed by a final round in Week 5, which included both a written test and an impromptu speech segment for the top 30 students. The Spanish competition was held in Week 4 and consisted of a single paper-based test.
The awards ceremony took place on Friday, April 21, where the winners were recognised for their outstanding performance. The event was praised not only for its academic rigor but also for its strong student leadership.
The competition was primarily organised by Kongxin Wang from the Everything You Know Club and Ruohan Hou from the Student English Association. Their leadership and dedication were instrumental in the planning and smooth execution of the event. With substantial support from both student societies, the initiative stood out as a model of student-led collaboration at XJTLU.
This year’s competition provided a platform for students to engage with language learning beyond the classroom, enhancing their public speaking, critical thinking, and intercultural communication skills. It also contributed to cultivating a dynamic, multilingual campus culture.
The School of Languages extends the appreciation to all organisers, participants, judges and prize givers whose enthusiasm and commitment made the competition meaningful and a memorable success.
