Enriching experience at the 2025 Engineering Conference

20 Oct 2025

Recently, the “2025 Engineering Conference on Intelligent Manufacturing” took place in Wuhan. This forum was organized and supported by Engineering Journal (Impact factor = 11.6, J1, SCI, Elsevier). Dr. Akhil Garg, Department of Chemistry and Materials Science was invited as a Keynote Speaker at the exclusive roundtable discussion forum on "Applications of Industrial Metaverse, General AI, and Robotics."

Dr Garg commented that it was a privilege to share the stage in this special forum with and learn from a distinguished assembly of 24 world-leading experts, including: Prof. Ji Zhou (Fellow of Chinese Academy of Engineering, former president of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Honorable Chairman of International Coalition of Intelligent Manufacturing, Editor-in-Chief of Engineering Journal), Prof. Andrew Kusiak (Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing, Professor of University of IOWA USA), Prof. Juergen Grotepass (Expert, German Platform Industry 4.0), Prof. Lihui Wang (Fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering, Professor of KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden), Prof. Liang Gao (IET Fellow, Vice President, HUST, Editor-in-Chief of IET Collaborative Intelligent Manufacturing Journal) and Prof. Weiming Shen (Fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering, Editor-in-Chief of IET Collaborative Intelligent Manufacturing Journal). Discussions arising from this forum shall be organized to open a special issue for “Engineering” Journal.

During this forum, Dr Garg presented his research on "AI-driven Topology Optimization for Battery Design and Manufacturing." He showcased how generative AI is revolutionizing the creation of next-generation battery cooling systems, making them lighter, cooler, and vastly more efficient while slashing design computation time from minutes to seconds.

Professor John Moraros, Dean, School of Science stated: “These cutting-edge conversations are at the very heart of our mission in the Robotics-AI Scientist Lab at the XJTLU School of Science, where we are actively exploring frontiers like Human-Robot Collaboration to forge a futuristic symbiosis, where AI and humans work seamlessly together.

Dr Garg expressed his appreciation for the vibrant discussions and the opportunity to represent the School of Science and Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) in this prestigious forum!

A brief professional bio for context:

Dr Akhil Garg is an Associate Professor in the School of Chemistry and Materials Science at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). His research is centered on machine learning for battery, genetic programming, and AI-driven topology optimization. He has been recognized as a Stanford Elsevier Top 2% Scientist for two consecutive years.

Dr Garg holds a PhD from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and has collaborated with industry leaders like Rolls-Royce Limited. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for the ASME Journal of Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Storage (reputed American publisher and SCI Journal) and is an external advisor for the EU-funded BatCAT project. He has presided over numerous grants, including an NSFC project from Hubei Province and an international university level projects with Professors and RSC fellow from Queen Mary University of London and St Petersburg State University of Russia. His work has garnered over 7,000 citations, achieving an h-index of 48.

He is looking for internships, master and PhD students, who are willing to work on AI having cross disciplines applications in chemistry, batteries, and materials. ?Please email at akhil.garg@gdsqbz.com
